Sustainable products and solutions will be in high demand at Fisp and Fire Show

Years of research have led to innovative ways of protecting people and the environment, such as the use of recycled PET bottles, certified cotton, and biodegradable materials

São Paulo, September 2018– Companies' ecological awareness has been solidifying over the last 20 years since the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Partly as a result of this initiative, more sustainable products are being offered, which can be seen in FISP – International Safety and Protection Fairand on Fire Show – International Fire Fair, which take place in parallel from October 3 to 5 at São Paulo Expo.

For example, FirePro is based on the solid FPC compound, developed after many years of research, which uses eco-friendly, naturally occurring potassium salts free of pyrotechnic substances. Once activated, it transforms into a condensed fire-extinguishing aerosol. The physical and chemical properties of the materials ensure that they pose no threat to the environment.

“Our commitment to sustainable production leads us to use ecological substances that can be recycled or reused at the end of their useful life, with no waste. Furthermore, our products hold the Green Label certification, are listed on the US Environmental Protection Agency's SNAP List, and, of course, contain no greenhouse compounds (fluorinated gases),” states Pedro Mazzaro, the company's Business Development Manager in Brazil.

The executive highlights the launch of FPC-based modular fire suppression systems, which also have the advantage of distributing the aerosol evenly, achieving a total flooding effect without increasing pressure in the protected enclosure. Fire extinction is achieved by interrupting the chain chemical reactions occurring in the flame rather than through oxygen depletion and/or cooling. The entire investment seems to be paying off, as FirePro has experienced significant growth in markets such as mining, renewable energy, ports, transportation, and marine.

Eduardo Silva, Communication coordinator at Cedro Textil, points out that the brand's workwear segment will feature the EcoCedro line, which uses polyester yarn produced from recycled PET bottles. The quality of the fiber is so well accepted by buyers that recycled polyester is used in every workwear product containing polyester. Other sustainability initiatives include the cotton used by the company, which must be certified by the ABR program (Responsible Brazilian Cotton) and licensed by the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative).

“We are also certified by the OEKO-TEX label, which attests to our operational quality and guarantees that the products used, especially chemicals, are hypoallergenic both for our employees who manufacture the pieces and for those who wear them within our clients,” says Silva.

Skin protection

For Green Process, sustainability is in its DNA. Commercial Director Victor Lorenzini Patah explains that the company has been recognized for 20 years as a creator of environmentally smart chemical solutions in cleaning, hygiene, and safety for the industry. Not only will it be launching new products at the event, but it is also expanding its distribution throughout Brazil and increasing its investments. “About 5% of our global revenue was allocated to R&D. We invest in technology to achieve maximum efficiency without harming the environment,” he says.

After five years of research, the company will present the Protheus 3 protective cream, a PPE for hand protection that is biodegradable, dermatologically tested, and has a moisturizing action, acting as a “chemical glove” for protection in workshops and maintenance sectors. In addition to Zeus Global, which acts directly on the heaviest and deepest dirt, as it contains an exfoliant that removes residue from fingerprints and emollient agents to prevent skin irritation, being indicated for use in steel mills, workshops, and industries that need to prevent the transfer of fingerprints onto parts, since it contains neither fatty acids nor oily elements. Both are certified by Anvisa.

These are just a few examples of sustainable solutions to be presented at Fisp and Fire Show, which together are expected to bring together around 700 exhibitors who will showcase the most modern developments in worker safety and protection to an audience of 40,000 people.
