Firefighters responded to more than 3.4 thousand incidents in the first six months of the year

Most of the calls were related to search and rescue operations.

The number of incidents responded to by the Sergipe Military Fire Department (CBMSE) in the first half of this year was 3,846, an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period last year, when the total was 3,302.

According to the Fire Department, among the actions carried out are pre-hospital care, guidance via the Integrated Public Security Operations Center (Ciosp), search and rescue, fires, civil defense operations, automobile accidents, diving, and lifeguard services.

Most of the calls (1,859) were related to search and rescue operations, of which 62.5% were for pest control. The second most common activity was guidance provided via Ciosp, totaling 634 cases. These were calls resolved over the phone, in which the firefighter advises the caller on how to proceed without the need for a crew to go to the scene. Firefighting ranked third among the most common incidents responded to in the first six months of this year, with 606 calls, including 308 wildfires and 298 urban fires. The number of traffic accidents totaled 124.

“It is observed that, even in the face of the current pandemic situation that Brazil is going through, despite the adoption of social distancing measures by the state of Sergipe for the containment and protection of society, there was a considerable increase in the number of calls handled by CBMSE in this first semester,” said the manager of the Communication Support Center (CESC) of CBMSE, who operates at Ciosp, Captain Jailson Chagas.
