Virtual award ceremony for the 7th ISB Award will take place on the 23rd

The Sprinkler Brasil Institute is hosting the virtual awards ceremony for the 7th ISB Award next Tuesday (the 23rd) at 5:00 PM. The award will be presented to Sávio Almonfrey for his work “The use of the public water supply network for sprinkler systems in historical buildings: A study in the city of Salvador.” The broadcast will take place live through this address, mediated by Marcelo Lima, general director of the Institute, and with a special participation by winners of previous editions, among others.

The award aims to encourage scientific research in the field of fire prevention and fighting, as well as to contribute to the production of bibliographic references on the subject in the Portuguese language. “The initiative has grown every year, demonstrating its significant contribution to the promotion of scientific research in the field of fire prevention and fighting. It is a great satisfaction for us to receive high-level and relevant papers that, in some way, contribute to new ideas and solutions regarding the theme. We are pleased with the results achieved so far!” explains Marcelo Lima, general director of the Sprinkler Brasil Institute.

Produced by Sávio Almonfrey and Daniel Alves Zandonadi, captains of the Military Fire Department of the State of Espírito Santo, the work looks back at the events of recent years related to the lack of fire protection in historic buildings and reveals new possibilities regarding prevention. “Today, Brazilian regulations do not provide for the possibility of interconnecting the public water supply to automatic sprinklers. However, the work brought this feasibility to light. It is the duty, not only of the Fire Department, but also of those who study Brazil's regulations, to map out new paths and offer alternatives,” says Almonfrey.

For winning the seventh edition of the contest, the authors will receive R$ 10,000 in cash, a trip to the FM Global Research Center in the United States, and the publication of their work in print and online.

“The award is already established and has become an academic reference and for professionals interested in the subject. We have seen a growing public interest in the theme, showing that scientific research remains alive and attentive to society's transformations. It is only through it that we will manage to seek more and better answers to the challenges we continually encounter in fire safety, especially with sprinklers. The quantity of quality papers we have received proves that initiatives like this contribute to the development of research and innovation,” concludes Marcelo Lima.

All produced content will be available at ISB website in the Library tab and can be downloaded for free.
