Health and Safety at Work Sector has great potential for growth in the country
International Safety and Security Fair, which will take place from October 3 to 5, at São Paulo Expo, will present the advances and new technologies for the sector
São Paulo, March 2018 – After three consecutive years of declines, the sales of the protective equipment sector stabilized in 2017 in Brazil and should grow 3% this year by the projections of Animaseg (National Association of Material Industry Safety and Protection at Work). A segment that operates more than R$ 4 billion per year according to the entity’s survey.
Comprising specific norms and legislation, the Health and Safety at Work (SST) still has much to advance in the country. There are more than 700 thousand accidents a year, generating expenses that reach a few tens of billions of reals. An assessment by the Fundacentro, an agency of the Ministry of Labor, indicates that between 2012 and 2016 these accidents caused 13.3 thousand deaths.
Against this backdrop, Cipa Fiera Milano is promoting the 22nd edition of FISP – International Fair of Safety and Protection between October 3 and 5 of this year. The event is carried out by Abraseg (Brazilian Association of Distributors and Importers of Equipment and Safety & Protection Products to Work), the Animaseg and Sindiseg (Union of Security Material). The event takes place simultaneously at the 13th Fire Show – International Fire Fair. Together, the fairs should attract an audience of over 50 thousand visitors and 700 exhibiting companies.
According to Rimant as Sipas, director of Fiera Cipa Milano, the objective is to promote professional qualification and training through lectures and courses given by specialists from several areas during the Occupational Health and Safety at Work (OSH), which aims the dissemination of the accident prevention culture with current approaches of greater interest and professional scope through courses and workshops. Also held is the Techshow with free lectures given by the exhibitors, which promote the exchange of information and technologies.
The events are aimed at professionals in the health and safety sector, such as firefighters, managers, engineers, occupational physicians, risk inspectors, HR professionals, entrepreneurs, buyers and technicians.
FISP is the second largest event in the world focused on health and safety at work sector, staying behind only of A + A, the German fair of the sector.
Raul Casanova, executive director of Animaseg, remembers that the OSH sector has great potential for growth in Brazil. “We estimate that today we have 45% workers in the informal economy, 15% statutory workers and civil servants and 40% workers in the formal economy. Thus, our estimate is that there is at least 50% of the workers still unattended and. therefore, although in the short term we are impacted by the country’s economy, there is still a lot of room to grow.”
