The executive director of the National Occupational Safety and Protection Material Industry (ANIMASEG) talks about the market outlook and expectations for the 21th edition of FISP |

International Safety and Protection Fair. With the most comprehensive business platform for occupational safety and health, the event takes place from October 05 to 07, 2016 at São Paulo Expo, São Paulo, bringing together 700 exhibitors and 50,000 industry professionals.

“The Country has an economically active
population of over 100 million workers and, therefore, has everything it takes to grow with higher rates than other economy sectors, once Brazilian growth has resumed. The PPE industry in Brazil has sales of 4.5 billion reais per year and the potential to double that revenue in a few years, and access to all necessary technology to adequately protect our workers,” says the executive.

1- How is the current industry of worker safety and protection

equipment?

The PPE industry is very dependent on the economic situation of the Country and is achieved directly with the drop in employment and the financial constraints of companies.

In a recent survey by Animaseg, there was an average decrease of 13% of turnover in 2015 compared to 2014. However, an improvement has been observed in the expectations of companies that expect to grow 4% in 2016 compared to 2015.

2- What are the alternatives to the current economic situation?

There is no doubt that the crisis significantly hindered companies in the sector, but like with any difficult period, it is also a time to explore new opportunities, companies in the sector have expanded their range of customers, which, in the long term, can benefit the entire industry.

3- In its 21th edition, the FISP has become a major industry event. What

is its importance for industry professionals?

It is an opportunity for professionals to learn about new products and new suppliers for products they already use, since FISP has become the meeting point of security professionals in Brazil, a mandatory event for those in the occupational safety and health sector.

4- What are the new features that visitors can check out between releases, new technologies and services?
All Brazilian and foreign companies will bring their innovations to FISP, in order to meet the demands of our market at all levels.

5- Besides the exhibition area, what more will visitors find at the event.

A new feature that we believe will make a difference in the event will be the participation of the Jorge Duprat Figueiredo Occupational Safety and Medicine Foundation (Fundacentro), linked to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, celebrating its 50th anniversary with an interactive participation at FISP.

6- Based on your analysis, what is the outlook for the sector?

The PPE industry in Brazil had a growth of 9 to 10% per year and, despite the Brazilian economy crisis and its impact on the sector, the country still has an economically active population of over 100 million workers and, therefore, has everything it takes to grow with higher rates than other economy sectors, once Brazilian growth has resumed.

7- Sector numbers

Even with the Brazilian economy drop, we are a sector with a turnover of 4.5 billion reais per year with potential to double this revenue in a few years. We have, in our market, local companies, multinational corporations, importers and access to all the technology necessary to adequately protect our workers. We believe that the country should invest more in education, aiming at

improving awareness about prevention always being the best way, with the lower cost.
