Thermo-Man®, the company's exclusive mannequin, proves the effectiveness of garments used in fire protection; meanwhile, the Spray Cabin simulates chemical leaks to test the resistance of suits

At the upcoming International Safety and Protection Fair (FISP), DuPont will perform live tests with two devices developed to check the effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in workplace accidents. Thermo-Man® is an exclusive full-size mannequin whose purpose is measured by the percentage of burns a worker may suffer when exposed to fire, according to their protective clothing. Meanwhile, the Spray Cabin is an enclosure where chemical leak simulations take place. The fair takes place from October 5 to 7 at São Paulo Expo, in São Paulo.

Thermo-Man® is a mannequin equipped with 122 heat sensors (excluding the hands and feet) capable of testing the quality of flame-resistant clothing. The equipment, located at the DuPont Innovation Center in Paulínia (SP) and serves all of Latin America, is the result of an investment of R$ 8 million and has made it possible to conduct the mandatory tests required for issuing the Certificate of Approval (CA) for PPE developed for thermal protection in Brazil. There are only four others like it in the world.

The Thermo-Man® tests will be conducted in the outdoor area of the pavilion. To operate, the protective garment is placed on the mannequin, which remains inside a chamber within a 12-meter-long container. The facility features a control room where the flame exposure time is measured, in accordance with international standards, along with the effectiveness of the suit.

The company also performs tests in the Spray Cabin, a booth where it is possible to simulate chemical leaks and demonstrate the resistance and impermeability of products like DuPont™ Tyvek®, the company's exclusive nonwoven fabric. The DuPont spray booth was designed to protect industrial workers and built according to ISO 16602 specifications for testing chemical protective clothing. The colored liquid used is water-based and poses no health risks. The simulations evaluate the quality of the fabrics and other protective materials, as well as the efficiency of the garments as a whole.

In 2016, FISP reaches its 21st edition and is expected to welcome more than 50,000 visitors at the São Paulo Expo, including nursing professionals, occupational physicians, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational safety engineers and technicians, risk inspectors, asset security personnel, internal accident prevention committee (CIPA) members, firefighters, managers, directors, and buyers, among others. The event will bring together around 700 exhibiting companies within a space of 42,000 m².
