Brazil holds a 5% share of the global market, which has revenues of US$29 billion
With their sights set on a market worth nearly R$ 5 billion, 700 exhibitors from European, Asian, and North American companies are showcasing their new technologies and accident-prevention products at Fisp — the International Safety and Security Fair, which runs through Friday (October 7) in São Paulo — showcasing their new technologies and accident prevention products. The event is the largest in Latin America focused on the occupational health and safety sector, and organizers expect to welcome an audience of 50,000 people.
According to data from the latest survey conducted by the National Association of the Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment Industry (Animaseg), the domestic market for PPE—Personal Protective Equipment—totaled R$ 4.64 billion in 2015. The most prominent segments are: footwear (33%); gloves (27%); and safety clothing (20%). In the global market, with revenues of US$1.29 billion, Brazil held a 5.1% share.
In this context, Victaulic, founded in the United States in 1919 and a global leader in mechanical pipe joining solutions, is making cutting-edge products that received a patent in May available to the Brazilian public. “Victaulic couplings have revolutionized the planning and implementation of fire protection and suppression systems where safety, installation speed, efficiency, and reliability are paramount,” states Pablo Del Hoyo, South America Division Manager at Victaulic.
The company brought to the trade show the FireLock™ Installation-Ready™ self-aligning fittings, VicFlex™ flexible sprinkler systems, FireLock NXT™ Series 769 check and pre-action valves, and the FireLock™ Series 747M zone control module for commercial buildings.
On the first day of the fair, Military Police Colonel and Deputy Commander of the São Paulo State Fire Department, Cassio Roberto Armani, visited several exhibitors and praised the technologies made available to the Brazilian market. “There are various new developments and companies showcasing products that bring great ease to the sector. Therefore, we can say that this event plays an essential role in security throughout the country,” he assessed.
Armani recalled the tragedy of the Kiss nightclub in the city of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul, which occurred in 2013 and left 242 dead, as well as other long-lasting, large-scale fires at the petrochemical and port terminals of Santos and Guarujá. For the military officer, it is essential to invest in a culture of prevention.
“Unfortunately, we always learn from certain accidents, but work has been done, generally speaking, by the firefighters themselves and by sector organizations, seeking, through public education, to create a culture of prevention in the country. Prevention is worth much more than fighting fires or responding to an emergency, and for this reason, the fair is bringing professionals the best that Brazil and the world have to offer,” he concluded.
