CANPAT will discuss the prevention of occupational accidents during Fisp 2018

This year, the campaign focuses on occupational illness and falls from work at height

São Paulo, September 2018Occupational illness and falls from work at height will be under discussion during the CANPAT 2018 Seminar – Southeast Region (National Campaign for the Prevention of Workplace Accidents), which will take place at Fisp (International Security and Protection Exhibition) between October 3 and 5, at São Paulo Expo. Promoted by the Ministry of Labor nationwide since April, the campaign aims to implement a better and strong culture of occupational safety and health.

Originating from the first SIPATs (Internal Week for Accident Prevention at Work) in 1953, it became permanent in 1971 with the objective of disseminating technical knowledge and providing practical teachings on accident prevention, safety, hygiene, and occupational medicine. It is an annual action developed by the Ministry of Labor, in partnership with various agencies, for the purpose of alerting and raising society's awareness about the importance of a culture of accident prevention at work. This year, the campaign started in April and runs until November.

At Fisp, there will be three days of lectures. Topics such as “Collective Protection Management in Construction”, “PPE Certification at the Ministry of Labor” and “Collective Protection Management in Construction” will be presented by nationally prominent experts.

Almeida draws attention to the fact that there is no truly reliable data on the volume of workplace accident cases in Brazil. “We have a statistic that uses CATs (Workplace Accident Notices), with about 460,000 cases in the country in 2017, in addition to the nexus cases attributed by the INSS,” Almeida points out. “However, this number does not include informal workers, self-employed professionals, and cases of underreporting, which are quite frequent in our country.”

Fisp is organized and promoted by Cipa Fiera Milano in partnership with Abraseg – Brazilian Association of Distributors and Importers of Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment and Products, Animaseg – National Association of the Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment Industry, and Sindiseg – Union of the Safety Material Industry. Together with Fire Show – International Fire Fair, it is expected to bring together around 700 exhibiting companies showcasing the most modern developments in the field of occupational and public safety and protection, with an audience of 40,000 professionals.
