FISP 2022: Safe Environments Symposium will address synergies between the industrial environment and occupational safety

Aiming at managers and professionals responsible for environmental and OHS management in organizations, the event will showcase the latest industry news, between October 18 and 20 at São Paulo Expo

São Paulo, October 2022 – Occupational safety and health are directly related to the environment provided by companies. To give breadth to the topic, the Safe Environments Symposium will be held during the FISP 2022 – International Fair of Safety and Protection, at the São Paulo Expo, from October 18 to 20. Over the three days of the event, the most relevant topics of the moment in the segment will be under discussion, with the technical backing of the two traditional reference magazines in these areas: Industrial Environment, edited by the BMComm Group, and CIPA & Fire, published by Fiera Milano Brasil.

Aiming at managers and other professionals responsible for environmental and occupational health and safety management in organizations, the Symposium will place special emphasis on the latest developments in the sector, the synergies between Environment and Occupational Health and Safety – OHS, and their relations with ESG efforts, as well as environmental, social, and governance commitments developed by organizations.

In this first edition, the opening of the symposium will feature keynote speeches delivered by Ambassador Rubens Barbosa, president of the Institute of International Relations and Foreign Trade – IRICE, who will speak on “The main environmental issues in Brazil and their importance in the global context – where we are and where we should go?”; and Rômulo Machado Silva, Undersecretary for Labor Inspection of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, who will address the topic “Regulatory Standards: updates made, objectives and changes underway.”.

Symposium organization consultant Raul Casanova, executive director of Animaseg – the National Association of the Safety and Occupational Protection Equipment Industry, points out that the subject is part of the daily debate among Brazilian business owners. “It is an important discussion. Some debates will even address Regulatory Standards – NRs. These are very current issues that involve regulations and the issue of a safe work environment, which is the central focus of Animaseg's work.”.

Among the points of convergence that serve as references for holding the symposium are: the specific characteristics and synergies of both management systems; interdependence in controlling OHS and environmental management impacts; complementarity in the implementation of the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards; a management structure based on the PDCA Cycle (Plan, Do, Check, and Act); and the mirroring of the management system requirements of the two areas.

The event also highlights the increasing integration of these areas, since in several companies the department is unified: SESMT + Environment; SIPAT (Internal Accident Prevention Week) has absorbed the environment and become SIPATMA; synergies must be leveraged for the mutual benefit of the topics, and professionals must be prepared and continuously updated.
