Between 2012 and 2017, the number of accidents fell from 77,312 to 57,490 (a 25.6% reduction). During the same period, fatalities fell from 138 to 90 (-34.8%).<\/p>\n<p>The numbers are positive, but still cause concern. From 2012 until last Thursday (9\/27), the country recorded 475,391 workplace accidents due to chemical agents, which equates to one worker affected every 7 minutes and 27 seconds. In the same period, there were 798 reported deaths\u2014one every three days.<\/p>\n<p>Mindful of these data, Brazilian companies have developed new products and technologies to protect workers against chemical agents. This is the case of Nakayama, which operates in the area of toxic and explosive gas detection. The company will launch the GX-6000 on the market, equipment that features sensors for more than 30 gases and simultaneously detects six.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight is the included option for selective benzene measurement in a smaller device (weighing about 400 g) that is easy to handle. \u201cIt is equipment aimed at professionals and needs related to occupational safety in the steel, chemical, and oil and gas industries,\u201d explains Paulo de Tarso, the company's commercial manager.<\/p>\n<p>MSA do Brasil also specializes in PPE (personal protective equipment), including gas detection devices. Among the products in its portfolio is the Ultima X5000 fixed gas monitor. According to the company, it is the industry's first with a touch interface, featuring an intuitive experience and tool-free operation.<\/p>\n<p>According to MSA do Brasil, the equipment is the future of gas detection for oxygen, toxic gases, and combustibles. The sensors feature technology that offers calibration cycles of up to the 18 months, subject to local calibration. The gas transmitter's advanced, multilingual display is easy to read, and the exclusive touchscreen interface simplifies navigation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Insufflators<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Still in the gas sector, confined spaces represent serious risks to workers, as oxygen deficiency, toxic, and flammable vapors can occur. To prevent accidents in these spaces, technical standards require the presence of air blowers, equipment designed to move large volumes of air.<\/p>\n<p>Conect, a specialist in this field, is bringing a new line of air blowers to the market this year with combined explosion-proof and increased-safety whole-unit certification. \u201cCertification applies to all components, such as the housing, motor, junction box, cable gland, power cord, on-off switch, and plug, which guarantees the user total operational safety, as the entire electrical path is compliant. This is what sets it apart from similar models, which only have motor certification,\u201d explains C\u00e9sar Machado, CBO of Conect. \u201cComplete certification is a guarantee to prevent accidents that cause operational, material, and financial losses. And, most importantly, to save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These and other featured products will be presented during the 22nd Fisp \u2013 International Fair of Safety and Protection, from October 3 to 5, at S\u00e3o Paulo Expo.
