The warning comes from Occupational Health and Safety engineer Rogério Luiz Balbinot, who will speak about “OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) Documental Organization to Comply with eSocial” during the Technical Seminar on eSocial: Legal Aspects, Planning, and Structuring of OHS Information, which takes place this Friday (5) at 22nd Fisp – International Fair of Safety and Protection, in São Paulo.

The ideal approach, according to Balbinot, is to start updating employee data now, in addition to needing software implemented and functioning properly to send the data to eSocial. “It is preferable to get everything up to date gradually, starting now, than to have to hire more people in December, for example, to be able to handle the demand,” he explains. The inclusion of fire prevention and fighting companies takes place on January 1, 2019.

“Take advantage of the arrival of eSocial to see not the problems, but the opportunities it offers your company. You will have to invest in software and a good amount of time to adapt the information, but if you get a head start, you will certainly win new clients. Companies are looking for occupational health and safety service providers who are attentive and prepared for eSocial.

Rondônia startup focuses on innovative software to help businesses

The startup eSocial MED, from Rondônia, which participates in the FISP – International Safety and Protection Fair for the first time, it invests in technology to help companies organize and streamline labor procedures, which also ends up contributing to employee productivity and health.

Through innovative software, the startup offers services such as SAT/RAT (Work Accident Insurance/Environmental Work Risks) Credit Recovery, featuring a free audit that helps companies detect errors and thus save money, avoiding fines and administrative expenses.

Another service offered is Financial Education. According to the startup, the Employee Financial Wellness Survey, conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), indicates that workers stressed about financial problems are twice as likely to miss work due to personal issues, and are more inclined to report health problems caused by financial stress.

Victaulic Expands Its Product Portfolio in the Fire Protection Sector

The American company Victaulic, a global leader in mechanical pipe joining solutions, is presenting the new additions to its portfolio at the 22nd Fisp – International Safety and Protection Fair, highlighting the FireLock™ IGS Installation-Ready™ sprinklers and the Model V9 sprinkler coupling for use in industrial applications and storage warehouses.

According to Pablo Del Hoyo, Victaulic's South America Division Manager, FireLock™ IGS Installation-Ready™ sprinklers are ready to install and available in a wide variety of models. They are supplied with pre-installed Model V9 sprinkler couplings, eliminating the preparation required for threaded sprinklers and optimizing installation efficiency. He explains that with the introduction of the FireLock™ IGS product family, customers have the option to design and install a complete sprinkler system from the supply riser to the system branch lines, depending on the type of application.

Founded nearly a century ago in the United States, the company is the only supplier of grooved pipe products to offer a complete grooved solution for joining pipes ranging from 1 to 12 inches in diameter for fire protection systems.

“Participating in FISP is important for raising awareness of Victaulic’s new solutions throughout the country. The event brings together professionals and service providers from various Brazilian cities, so our team is very excited to showcase these technical innovations to visitors at our booth,” concludes Del Hoyo.

Brauch Safety launches CleanSpace2 masks at Fisp 2018

Brauch Safety is launching the CleanSpace2 masks during Fisp (International Safety and Protection Fair). Imported from Australia, according to Ricardo Forti, owner of the company, the equipment does not require batteries, hoses, or belt-mounted cables. “The CleanSpace2 air-purifying masks were designed to be simple and quick to use,” explains Forti. “Whether workers have to wear it for 5 minutes or 10 hours, it's not a problem. CleanSpace is an intuitive and easy system, with a quick-snap locking design.”

CleanSpace2 respirators, according to Forti, run an intelligent algorithm that delivers clean air on demand. “The AirSensit system used in the equipment adjusts the airflow in response to the user's breathing, no matter how hard the user is working, making it an extremely comfortable breathing mask, even during long periods of wear.”

Fire Show

Fire safety remains far from a priority for Brazilians

From the fire at the Joelma building to the tragedy at the Kiss nightclub, the recent collapse of a building in downtown São Paulo, and the destruction of the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilians’ safety culture still does not consider fire a priority, according to Ademir Santos, Honeywell’s Training Supervisor for Latin America.

The executive spoke during the presentation “Current Status and Trends in Standards for Fire Detection and Alarms—NBR 17240/2010” at the Fire Show—International Fire Fair, held at São Paulo Expo, where he addressed the issue. “ABNT’s CB-024 Fire Safety Committee has 87 technical standards in effect and two standards under public consultation. In addition, Brazil is a signatory to the WTO’s agreement on best practices. But what can also make a big difference in this matter is pressure from society and industry organizations for stronger legislation,” he emphasized.

According to Santos, Brazilians have many other problems to worry about before remembering fire safety. In the United States, on the other hand, for example, several decades ago some cities went through true devastations caused by fire that cost many lives and billions of dollars, which led local, regional, and state governments to take drastic legislative actions regarding safety. “Also remembering that there, wooden buildings are much more common and an additional risk,” he pointed out.

The two ABNT fire safety standards under public consultation can be checked on the websites www.abntonline.com.br/consultanacional.

Cedro Têxtil's virtual reality experience offers a “close-up” look at the fire resistance of its uniforms

Visitors to the occupational safety industry who stop by the Cedro Têxtil booth at Fisp—the International Safety and Protection Fair, which runs through Friday at São Paulo Expo—can get an up-close look at the burn test for the company’s protective uniforms. Simply put on the 3D glasses and float in a very realistic way with a 360° view over the laboratory where the uniform is subjected to six fire cannons for several seconds, maintaining its integrity at the end.

The workwear manufacturer is launching more than 30 products at the trade fair, some featuring exclusive technology in Brazil, such as Cronos FR, a flame- and electric arc-retardant denim aimed at professionals working with electricity and in the oil and gas sector, approved in accordance with international standards. “Here at Fisp, we are also betting on augmented reality in our brochures, which approach the protective uniform as an exoskeleton and make it easier for visitors to visualize how the new products work in practice,” concludes Eduardo Silva, the company's Communications Coordinator.

Standards prevent fires from causing buildings to collapse

The fire, followed by the collapse, of the 24-story Wilton Paes de Almeida building in Largo do Paissandu, downtown São Paulo, which occurred in May of this year, shows that the failure to comply with prevention standards still puts buildings at risk of collapse in the country. This criticism comes from professor Valdir Pignatta e Silva, from the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, who spoke about “Building Disasters Resulting from a Fire” during the 20th Cobeni (Brazilian Congress of Fire Engineering), which takes place alongside the Fire Show 2018.

Just like the Wilton Paes de Almeida Building, built over 50 years ago and therefore before regulations were issued, other buildings in São Paulo also present risks and should comply with the requirements. “Under current legislation, a fire that starts on one floor of a multi-story building cannot spread to the upper floor,” explains the specialist in structural fire engineering.

According to Pignatta, very few buildings collapse worldwide. “The design must be such that a fire remains confined to its point of origin. Any building, regardless of the structural material—concrete, steel, masonry, wood, whatever it may be—if designed in accordance with current standards and regulations, is adequately safe.”.

Fire Department presents its social actions during Fire Show

The São Paulo State Fire Department is presenting, during Fire Show 2018, its social outreach efforts to raise awareness and prevent fires and accidents. According to Sergeant Fabri, the department currently conducts 5,575 public education initiatives across 173 cities in the state.

One of the highlights is the Junior Firefighter program, which is supported by companies and run by Fundabom (Fire Department Support Foundation). It is an initiative aimed at children from the outskirts. “We provide notions of citizenship as well as guidance on how to prevent accidents and fires and how to act in moments of risk,” explains Fabri. The sergeant also highlights the Safe Flame Project, carried out in areas where frequent accidents involving cooking gas cylinders are identified. “In contact with local leaders, we gather residents to talk about the precautions they should take. In the end, we replace the stove valves free of charge,” he states.

“We also have the Firefighter at School project, where eighth-period students from municipal and state educational institutions receive weekly visits from Fire Department instructors outside of class hours,” Fabri notes. The youths receive instruction in first aid, domestic accident prevention, basic rescue concepts, citizenship and ethics, and environmental preservation. On the last day of class, the students develop and implement a school evacuation plan, which simulates an emergency scenario and the controlled exit of all students from the premises.

Service:

22nd Fisp and 13th Fire Show 2018

Data: October 3 to 5
Time: from 1 PM to 9 PM
Local São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center – Rodovia dos Imigrantes, Km 1,5 – São Paulo/SP

About Cipa Fiera Milano

Cipa Fiera Milano, the Brazilian subsidiary of Fiera Milano—one of the world's largest trade fair and congress organizers, which each year attracts approximately 30,000 exhibitors and more than five million visitors—became the majority shareholder of Cipa do Brasil in 2011, giving rise to Cipa Fiera Milano.
