Ways to serve the hospital sector and new rules will drive
\n23rd International Fair of Security and Protection \u2013 FISP, scheduled for October in S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em><\/p>\n

The importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) has never been clearer than in this\u00a0moment to combat the pandemic<\/a>. The lack of certain items, of scarce domestic production, tends to intensify discussions about changes in the sector \u2013 some of which were underway even before the outbreak of the new coronavirus.<\/p>\n

This scenario raises expectations around\u00a023rd edition of FISP \u2013 International Fair of Safety and Protection<\/strong>, which will take place from October 20 to 22, 2020, at S\u00e3o Paulo Expo.<\/p>\n

Organized by Cipa Fiera Milano, FISP is the leading trade fair of its kind in Latin America and the second largest in the world, second only to Germany's A+A.<\/p>\n

Filmmakers<\/h2>\n

The fair is organized by Animaseg (National Association of the Work Safety and Protection Equipment Industry), Abraseg (Brazilian Association of Distributors and Importers of Work Safety and Protection Equipment and Products), and Sindiseg (Union of the Safety Equipment Industry), taking place simultaneously with\u00a014th Fire Show \u2013 International Fire Fair<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Together, the trade shows are expected to attract an audience of more than 50,000 visitors and 700 exhibiting companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs many know, various PPE items that are in short supply in the hospital sector are imported. They could have been manufactured here if there had been, for years, a policy to support national production,\u201d observes Raul Casanova Junior, Executive Director of Animaseg and Abraseg.<\/p>\n

Of the nearly 1,300 companies that make up the sector's elite, only 5% deal in respiratory protection equipment. Another 5% supply hospital gloves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sector is willing to listen, propose, and act to align strategic changes, says the spokesperson.<\/p>\n

New information record<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Openness to debate has guided the conduct of the occupational health and safety industry regarding Provisional Measure 905, issued in November 2019.<\/p>\n

Among other actions, the MP aims to establish a new certification model for PPE, replacing the Certificate of Approval (CA) \u2013 an instrument used for over 40 years in Brazil.<\/p>\n

Animaseg, for example,\u00a0created the AR<\/a>, voluntary registration to centralize PPE information such as reports, certificates, usage instructions, restrictions, and validity certified by laboratories or Product Certification Bodies (OCPs).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe RA provides more data and guarantees than the CA, assuring the consumer that the purchased product is identical to the tested one,\u201d states Raul Casanova Junior.<\/p>\n

Provisional Measure 905<\/h2>\n

The conversion of Provisional Measure 905 into law is ongoing. The text was approved by Congress on April 14 and now depends on the Senate's approval. The deadline for the completion of the entire process is April 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tendency is toward approval. That's why we are attentive and also keeping the government abreast of our initiatives, says the executive from Animaseg and Abraseg.<\/p>\n

The organizers and producers of FISP rely on measures to improve labor protection in Brazil.<\/p>\n

According to the Digital Observatory for Occupational Safety and Health, from 2012 to 2018 the country recorded 4.7 million workplace accidents, or one every 49 seconds. In the same period, there were 17.2 thousand deaths due to incidents or illnesses related to the job (one death every 3 hours and 40 minutes).<\/p>\n

Like many industries, the personal protective equipment (PPE) sector had been recovering after a downturn in the turbulent 2015-2016 biennium.<\/p>\n

Animaseg plans to release its 2019 financial results during the 23rd FISP, but anticipates that last year continued the trend of recovery. In 2018, the organization\u2019s members\u2014which account for 85% of the domestic market\u2014generated R$ 4.36 billion in revenue, with the apparel and safety gloves segments standing out.<\/p>\n

\u201cFISP will once again showcase the most modern and innovative special suits, face protection, gloves, footwear, and harnesses, among other safety items,\u201d says Rimantas Sipas, Commercial Director at Cipa Fiera Milano.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, as in previous editions, the event will also promote the training of those who work in the sector. At Techshow, for example, the public will be able to participate in free lectures by exhibitors, updating themselves on information and technologies, continues Rimantas Sipas.<\/p>\n

Sipas also points out that, although consolidated as the largest gathering of occupational health and safety professionals (engineers, occupational physicians, risk inspectors, technicians, internal accident prevention committee members, and firefighters), FISP also represents an important opportunity for business owners and general buyers.<\/p>\n

\u201cStatistics show that more than 98% of Brazilian companies are small and do not have anyone dedicated to prevention. Understanding this issue is important for everyone.\u201d.<\/p>\n
