After two years, São Paulo is once again hosting FISP | International Trade Fair for Safety and Protection, the largest event dedicated to the occupational health and safety sector in Latin America, taking place from October 5 to 7, 2016, at the São Paulo Expo, in São Paulo. In its 21st edition, the trade fair showcases the sector's potential through 700 exhibitors featuring solutions aimed at the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses, such as fall hazards, electrical hazards, cut hazards, and confined space risks.
Additionally, safety clothing, hearing and face protectors, hard hats and safety glasses, respiratory protection, safety footwear, protective cream, safety gloves, fire extinguishers; fixed fire detection and suppression systems; alarms and identification.
The fair promotes professional qualification and training through a broad schedule of lectures and courses given by specialists from various fields, during the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Professional Qualification Show, which aims to disseminate the preventionist culture with current approaches of greater professional interest and breadth through courses and seminars such as NR33, aimed at updating professionals who work in confined spaces, and the e-Social seminar, which will prepare companies for the correct transition from current systems to the new tool, eliminating or reducing labor and tax liabilities. Furthermore, with a free schedule of lectures given by exhibitors, TECHSHOW promotes the exchange of information and technologies.
The events are aimed at occupational health and safety professionals, such as firefighters, managers, engineers, occupational physicians, risk inspectors, HR personnel, internal accident prevention committee members (CIPA), business owners, buyers, and technicians.
FISP is an initiative by Cipa Fiera Milano, organized by the Brazilian Association of Distributors and Importers of Safety and Occupational Protection Equipment and Products (ABRASEG), the National Association of the Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment Industry (ANIMASEG), and the Safety Material Industry Union (SINDISEG).
Brazil records more than 700,000 workplace accidents per year
According to the latest Statistical Yearbook of Social Security (reference base year 2014), 704,136 work accidents were recorded in Brazil, resulting in 2,783 deaths. In other words, every day, more than seven Brazilian workers lose their lives performing their professional activity, due to a lack of safety, maintenance in the work environment, or failure to use personal protective equipment.
The Southeast region accounts for 53.9% of reported accidents, with 379,425 cases and 1,303 deaths. The data show an average of 1,000 accidents per day and three workers killed daily. In addition, 5,968 workers in the region became permanently disabled in 2014 due to workplace accidents or occupational diseases. São Paulo recorded 239,280 workplace accidents and 690 deaths.
NATIONAL PPE MARKET
The domestic PPE market was worth R$ 4.64 billion in 2015, according to data from the latest survey conducted by the National Association of the Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment Industry (ANIMASEG).
The most prominent segments are footwear (33%), followed by gloves (27%) and safety clothing (20%). In the global market, with revenue of US$1.429 trillion, Brazil held a 51% share.
