During the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, safety measures at the construction site need to be extended to the receiving of supplies and materials.
José Bassili, Occupational Safety manager at the Social Service of the Civil Construction Industry (Seconci-SP), warns that the first step is to avoid direct contact with the delivery person – a minimum distance must be respected. “Both the delivery person and the person receiving the package must use protective equipment such as masks and gloves.” Construction management must designate a specific location for deliveries to be made. Afterwards, the area needs to be sanitized.
In some cases, there is a need to sign delivery receipts. The ideal approach is to use your own pen and clipboard rather than the delivery person's items, and to sanitize your hands before and after receiving the items. The next step is to sanitize the packaging with alcohol and discard it as quickly as possible. For these procedures to be followed, it is important to communicate them to all employees.
Other care
Ricardo Vaz Marcon, Occupational Safety Engineer, reinforces the other precautions to be taken:
- Measure the temperature and refer anyone showing symptoms to a doctor;
- Maintain a minimum distance of 2 meters between people;
- Wash your hands constantly, especially after using the bathroom;
- Sanitize your cell phone with alcohol and do not touch your face while using the device;
- Sanitize shared work tools;
- Do not share coffee or water bottles, cups, and cutlery;
- Frequently clean the common areas
- Split the teams into shifts during mealtimes;
- Keep the windows open during indoor activities;
- Take a shower before leaving the construction site;
- Go straight home.
