New technologies in the safety and security sector help save lives

Companies are going to launch innovative products during FISP – International Safety and Protection Fair, which takes place from October 3 to 5 at São Paulo Expo

São Paulo, September 2018 – In a country where occupational safety still presents alarming figures, new technologies contribute not only to reducing economic impacts on Social Security, but also to saving lives. Brazil is the fourth country in the number of deaths from workplace accidents, trailing only China, the United States, and Russia, according to the ILO (International Labour Organization).

According to the Digital Observatory of Occupational Health and Safety, maintained by the Public Ministry of Labor in cooperation with the ILO, a person died at work in Brazil every four and a half hours in 2017. And a worker was injured every 38 seconds.

In addition, from 2012 to 2017, the country recorded 1 million workplace accidents per year, totaling 305 million lost workdays and resulting in R$ 26.2 billion in social security expenditures. During that period, 14,412 accidental deaths were reported.

In this context, innovation becomes a great ally for companies and workers. Even details that may seem simple, such as a more flexible uniform, differently manufactured equipment, or software with creative solutions, contribute to more positive statistics in the future.

One of the examples is Flex RipStop (a fabric structure for military uniforms with greater resistance) with elastane. The product will be launched at Fisp by Cedro Têxtil. “Elastane brings mobility to a safe, firm fabric that will not tear, in which the military or security professional can squat, stand up, and run with greater freedom of movement,” says Eduardo Silva, the company's communication coordinator.

Conquista is also betting on a new material to innovate in the field of fall protection PPE: the Flex harness, which uses a textile solution for the attachment elements instead of metal rings. “We are introducing a paradigm shift that solves several problems: lower weight and a lower price, in addition to minimizing the limitations of metal components, such as corrosion and electric arc. The manufacturing method keeps the dorsal and lateral attachment elements ‘primed’, making it easier to access and connect the joining component,” highlights Marcos Amazonas, the company's technical sales director.

Software

Innovative software has also been a major ally in worker safety. Nexo CS will present Nexo Prevenção de Riscos, which allows for system integration, configuration, and customization according to the client. “It is a solution aimed at companies that need to manage work-related risks, especially those exposed to hazards in their activity,” emphasizes CEO Ricardo Donner.

Nexo Prevenção de Riscos allows employees themselves to collaborate by reporting potential risks/deviations in their daily routine through a mobile app (available for iOS and Android) that feeds the company's Occupational Safety Department control panel in real time.

Still in the Information Technology area, data management proves essential for risk analysis and, consequently, preventive actions. With this in mind, Laepi offers the Portal Consulta PA, a website for checking all earplugs in Brazil that have a CA (Certificate of Approval). The system allows for the search and comparison of equipment. “Access is free and consultation is open, aimed at industries, professionals, and consultants in the field of occupational safety,” says Rafael Nagi Cruz Gerges, the company's technical director.

These new products will be presented during the 22nd Fisp – International Safety and Protection Fair, from October 3 to 5, at São Paulo Expo. Fisp is organized and promoted by Cipa Fiera Milano in partnership with Abraseg – Brazilian Association of Distributors and Importers of Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment and Products, Animaseg – National Association of the Occupational Safety and Protection Equipment Industry, and Sindiseg – Union of the Safety Material Industry. Together with Fire Show – International Fire Fair, it is expected to bring together about 700 exhibiting companies showcasing the most modern developments in worker and public safety and protection, with an audience of 40,000 professionals.
