At Brazil's premier international security and protection event, the company presents an innovation for the professional uniforms sector
Of October 18 to 20, no São Paulo Expo, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a Ideal Work – largest manufacturer of professional uniforms in Brazil, is among the highlights of FISP – International Trade Fair for Safety and Protection. At the event, the company presents the world's first sustainable fabric for the segment, the Ecowork. Innovation is the company's response to the ongoing challenge of dealing with production waste and the environmental impacts of the industry.
In a fully sustainable production chain, the Ecowork It is the only fabric for professional uniforms derived from the circular economy—a process in which used uniforms and waste are transformed back into the same product they originally were. With this innovation, the company estimates that the launch will account for 20% of its annual revenue, which currently stands at R$ 250 million.
In manufacturing, the parts used by employees and production waste are shredded, mixed with other fibers, such as cotton and polyester, which give durability and strength to the yarn, to then be transformed into fabric and uniforms, thus closing the cycle. By reconfiguring the manufacturing method for the segment, it is estimated that the Ideal Work will recycle more than 20 thousand tons of used uniforms in 1 year, which means 20 thousand fewer tons of textile waste in landfills.
Second Antonio Rodrigues - CEO of Ideal Work, “We’re exploring new technologies to demonstrate that it’s possible to produce and manufacture fabrics in a sustainable way. It took two years of research and development and an investment of R$4 million to achieve this outstanding result. Thanks to our company’s pioneering spirit, we have once again put Brazil in the spotlight when it comes to sustainability.”.
For Rodrigues, environmental concern is part of the discussions of the expansion plan of Ideal Work. Changing the essence of products for the professional uniforms sector requires a different level of commitment to stimulate sustainable development. It is necessary to think about efficient strategies and the eco-efficient production process.
Sustainable leadership
The challenges posed after the outbreak of the pandemic initiated the fabric project Ecowork toward caring for the planet. For two years in research and development, the Ideal Work He had the mission of finding a truly efficient and sustainable material to minimize the industry's impact on nature and overcome the scarcity of raw materials.
To achieve this, the company was extremely demanding and strategic in choosing its entire production chain, ensuring suppliers with compatible values and sustainable processes. The company also hired a certification body to ensure the credibility and traceability of the entire chain, thereby proving the cycle and reuse of waste.
Always with a sustainable focus on its production processes, the Ideal Work It has long maintained a responsible waste disposal program, recycled nearly 70 metric tons of fabric, paper, and plastic from its production processes last year, and is one of the few companies in the industry to receive 100% certification under the 2021 ABVTEX program, in addition to publishing an Annual Sustainability Report. The company also has an effective diversity policy—in other words, it was already ESG-compliant long before the term became a trend and gained the prominence it has today.
By 2023, all five manufacturing plants – Jandira (São Paulo), Pilar do Sul (São Paulo), Santo Antônio da Platina (São Paulo), Macaé (Rio de Janeiro), and Cambuí (Minas Gerais) – will have power supplied by solar panels (three plants already have this today).
